We first imported our own Sire, Neo, from Slovakia in 2014, after a few years of travelling around Europe for Sires with diverse pedigrees, suitable for our girls. We chose some stunning males and brought those lines to the UK.
In 2023, we imported Thorin, Judges Den Conquest Thorin from Canada After successfully passing all health tests, we are very proud to add this lovely young male to our future breeding plans.
Thorin goes back to our lovely Siska on his Dam's side and Voulé du Clos Des Gres on his Sire side. We first used this lovely boy in 2010 for our first litter but never bred his daughter so lost that line.
Serious enquiries only please!

We have no plans for puppies until 2026.

All our dogs in breeding have passed the required health tests, their results are provided on their own pages.
Not all our health results are recorded with the KC or BVA but we have all health certificates available.
.
We are members of the Leonberger Association and follow their high standards of breeding Leonbergers in the UK. We are registered with the GB Kennel Club as Leonberger breeders under the Pagency Affix.
As responsible breeders, we don't have a mating until we have several puppies reserved.

We have never advertised pups on social media, only on this website.
We pride ourselves in that our pups are always sold by the time they are born.

For those who are searching other breeders, and we recommend that people do this, please don't enquire with us until you have finished your research. Puppy buyers guide.
Please don't contact us if you are already in contact with another breeder, it's simply time wasting. Breeders talk to each other so we usually know who's doing the circuit.
Be aware, there are breeders who try to discredit others without foundation. Never let your ears believe what your eyes have never seen. Meet people and make your own decision based on your own experience. Most of our pups go to homes who already have one or more of our pups and have experience of us.

Our dogs are a huge part of our family and are all treated as our extended family of children. We are with our dogs 24 hours per day, they do not live in kennels.
It is important to us that our puppies go to established families who have similar principles to ours; where they will live in the home and be at the center of a family and included in every day life, but most importantly; where they will be loved and cared for, for the rest of their lives.
Full time working homes are not suitable for this breed of dog. There has to be one person home all the time. They are not guard dogs and will not be sold as such.
Training is an absolute must for this giant breed of dog and we insist that training is agreed with new owners. The KC Good Citizens Award training, Bronze, Silver and Gold is excellent. We have spent many years, training all our dogs through these awards, it really is worth the work involved. If people don't have the time and dedication; or resources for regular training, then a Leonberger is not for them.
If you train your Leonberger from a young puppy and follow our advice, there will be no need for harnesses and gruesome head collars later on. We don't want to see our pups wearing these, we want proper training to be given from the start.
You can't have a Leonberger on a budget: food is more expensive as is the KC insurance that we recommend, vet bills etc. Average costs can be more than keeping a person! While you don't need to be rich, you need to be in a comfortable position financially and not have to worry about the expense. A good example here, if you want a Rolls Royce but can't afford the fuel, get a Mini.
The initial outlay of a Leonberger does not represent the true cost of keeping a Leonberger for the next 7-10 years. Your first purchase will probably be a bigger vehicle, so add another 10-20k on to the purchase price of your puppy. The average cost to keep a Leonberger on a good diet is approximately £100 per month.
You can expect to pay £2400-£3000
We import dogs to enable us to continue our quest for genetic diversity within the breed. We are preservation breeders and have put great effort in to our breeding; we have travelled around Europe for the last 15 years. When you reach the border of Slovakia & Ukraine, you know you are as far East in Europe as you can go. This is an expensive hobby and breeding is not cheap to do and with a huge amount of work involved. Most Leonberger breeders are enthusiastic and passionate about the health and future of our wonderful breed.
In August 2023, we imported another male puppy from Canada to continue with our efforts for the future.

Dogs are carnivores, they require a meat based diet, this is so important to the health and longevity of a Leonberger. A serious consideration for vegetarians who might have a problem handling and feeding meat. If this is a problem then our puppies are not for those people.
We wish to be kept updated with news and photos periodically throughout their lives, at least every six months. We have this written in our puppy contract. If this is not something one would be happy to do, then perhaps we would not be the right breeders for that person. We are just being honest in our approach to selling puppies, we have high expectations of our puppy owners as our puppies are very precious to us. It is also important to know about any illness or even death later on as this information helps with our breeding choices in the future.
Buying a well bred pedigree Leonberger from a breeder is incomparable to puppy farms or breeders who churn out various breeds continually. The majority of us take great care with every mating we have. Importing dogs for genetic diversity is expensive, we create our own lines over several years. We have an invested interest in every puppy we breed, we need to know the future health status and longevity. While the new owner will own their new puppy, the breeder has full control over the genetic blood line of each one.

We would not sell a puppy who would have to live outdoors in a kennel, these dogs are very sensitive family pets who thrive on being allowed to join in on all family activities. For this reason, we don't sell to most breeders. You must have a suitable vehicle for them. The Leonberger is more needy than any other breed of dog that we have ever known, very social and needy for your company at all times.
There is a misconception from people who own land, some think it satisfactory for the dog to never leave the property. Very wrong indeed. Dogs need the mental stimulation of different scents and environments. The same walk day in day out is very boring for them, it is necessary to remove the dog from their usual environment at least a few times a week, no matter how much land people may own.

Our KC registered puppies are sold as pets only and will have breeding endorsements applied on their registration certificate as "Progeny not eligable for registration" These will not be lifted unless breeding has been agreed before purchase, a contract will be signed to protect our puppies in the future.
For anyone serious in preservation breeding, we would make an exception if the dog is of excellent quality and has gained sufficient awards at Championship show level. You don't know if your dog is of excellent quality unless you have critiques from professional, accomplished judges. Having a dog who everyone in the village says is beautiful, is not a reason to breed from that dog and we would refuse on that basis, we have!
We also place an endorsement of "not for exportation" this is to stop our pups getting in the wrong hands.
A loving home is much more important to us than a show home. We don't encourage showing but would provide advice to anyone who would like to show a puppy. Not every dog is of show quality, any advice on this would be given with no guarantee. Ring Craft training is a must before entering in to any Championship show. There is a great deal of work to do before any puppy is ready for the big ring.

Puppies stay with us until they are eight weeks of age, as is the law. It is very important for puppies to be in their forever homes as early as possible as they need one to one attention that they cannot get in the litter. For this reason, we will not keep puppies longer than a few days extra.
We reserve the right to refund monies paid at any point if we feel any doubt about a prospective puppy home!

We are self financing hobby breeders and we have always kept official accounts for our breeding so all bank tranfers and/or cash are recorded. (This was noted with shock during our assessment for the ABS by the KC) Alan is HMRC registered even though retired. Self Assessment Accounts are submitted yearly.

Since our first litter in 2010 and due to travelling across Europe to use many foreign Sires, importing Neo from Slovakia and importing our three youngsters from Poland in 2018-2019 in our quest for genetic diversity, and the upkeep of up to 12 Leonbergers, we have never been in a position to make profit from breeding. Importing another boy from Canada in 2023 was a huge expense. Our dogs have to be self sufficient so we have to breed to be able to afford to keep a large pack. Breeding is an expensive hobby, always looking for different blood lines and dogs, health testing etc. Those of us who do it properly will continue to put everything back in to breeding and our dogs, profit is never a consideration.

When we do have puppies, it is always a labor of love and we enjoy every moment with them when they are here.
During the first few weeks of your puppies life, we keep you informed at every stage of their progress. For our last few litters, this has been made so much easier with Apps on our mobiles and it has been great to get to know people a little better as we communicate throughout your exciting journey.

VACCINATIONS
We used to vaccinate pups at 7 weeks then advise owners to do the second jab at 10 weeks. Our protocol has changed on this due to so many vaccine related illnesses and even death in young puppies. In Europe, they don't do this, due to the Mother passing on antibodies to puppies, they have protection until they are 12 weeks old, this is the best time to vaccinate and with only one vaccine instead of two. (Both vaccines are identical, given just in case the first one didn't work) Most don't work as they already have immunity from their Dam. Breeders and Vets in Europe have followed this protocol with a better success rate and less illness and vaccine reaction in pups. Follow this link for more information: Click here

We are no longer giving Lepto 2 or 4. These vaccines can be dangerous to young puppies and actually only provide protection against Leptospirosis (infected rat urine) for a two week period. Your vet will not inform you of this. More info Click here
Prospective owners will need to inform their Vet of this change prior to collecting their puppy. As a customer, you inform your vet of your preferred option regarding vaccination. If this is not accepted by your vet then you must find another vet who will proceed with this protocol. It will be a condition of sale.
We now know that vaccinations, chemicals and early spay/neuter may be responsible for cancer related illness and early death in our breed. Early spay (before 3 years of age) can be responsible for cruciate injuries due to weakened bone and also more susceptible to bone cancer (osteoporosis) later on in life. We don't spay or neuter unless there is a medical reason to do so. We must do more to protect our pets and help them to live longer lives. We also know that breeders have better longevity than the average pet owner, this is due to less vaccines and chemicals throughout the life of the animal. Breeders are more likely not to be bullied in to unwanted, dangerous and ineffective treatments. Please don't be afraid of standing up to your Vet. We are no longer in an age where our vet wants the best health for our animals, we have six huge conglomerates of veterinary practices in the UK, taking 70% of the overall market. It's not in their financial interest for your puppy to remain healthy. As breeders, we want good health and longevity for our puppies. Our advice is given purely with the best intentions for a puppy that we have loved, nurtured and cared for; for their first weeks of life. Our advice is free for the life of the puppy and we are happy to pass on our knowledge of this breed. We may not be qualified vets but we have 19 years of specialist breed experience, friends, breeders and experts with more than 30 years knowledge behind them. None of us are paid by the big pharmaceutical companies to push anything for financial gain. Today's corporate vets cannot make this claim.
If you disagree with this then we are not the breeders for that person.

As responsible breeders, we have a clause in our puppy contract that states that our puppies must come back to us at any point should the need arise. They cannot be passed on to another owner or sold without our consent. We ask no questions and make no judgment should any puppy owner of ours be in this unfortunate position. While we would be sympathetic, our priority would be for the puppy that we have bred, so there should be no reason for anyone to not want us to know.
We emphasise that under no condition must any puppy bred by us, be involved in any way with the Leonberger welfare/rescue organisations.
Either of these would be a breach of contract of which we take very seriously. We would take legal steps to recover any puppy that is contracted to an owner and at their expense. Owners agree and sign that a breach of contract will incur costs to them.
